If you attended The Ohio State University, chances are good you either visited or walked past the Bier Stube, a longtime campus bar. After countless decades on High Street, the Stube came down last year to make room for a truly unique student housing project: a 13-story, 186-unit structure on High Street and 9th Ave.
Its size and location aren’t what make it unique – it’s how it is being built: with timber. In fact, it will be the first mass-timber project in Columbus, and the tallest such student housing building in the country.
The project is well underway. Be sure to drive by and see this unique construction material and technique before the outer envelope goes on.
Our client, Chicago-based Harbor Bay Ventures, is the developer. Columbus-based Elford is leading construction as general contractor. And DLR Group is providing planning, architecture, and interior design. It is expected to open in summer 2027 and be managed by Coastal Ridge.
