Columbus-Franklin County Finance Authority relies on a deeply experienced Board of Directors to guide long-term planning, review and approve investment opportunities, develop deals, and represent our organization in the community. Meet Tenesha Hartgrove, our newest addition to the Board.
What brought you to Columbus?
I was born and raised here and take great pride in being a graduate of Columbus State, Franklin University, and Capital Law School. I’m the owner of an accounting firm based in Hilliard, where my team and I specialize in tax preparation and accounting services for small businesses. I’m also an adjunct professor at Columbus State where I get to share my love of accounting.
How does your experience apply to the work of the Finance Authority?
Through my firm, Ncrease Financial Services, LLC, I am deeply passionate about supporting business owners. My professional experience allows me to understand the unique challenges they face, and I’m excited to bring that perspective to the Board’s work, particularly in working with their Small Business initiatives and fostering economic growth and opportunity.
You’ve been a Board member for nearly a year. Were there any surprises? What have you learned since joining?
I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the variety of alternative financing options available for development projects. While I had experience with residential mortgage lending and other traditional financing, my time on the Board has been an education in bond financing and capital leases. It’s been a fascinating learning experience.
As a small business CPA, what challenges and opportunities do you foresee for small businesses in 2025?
One of the most significant challenges—and opportunities—facing small businesses is the rapid evolution of AI. Keeping up with these emerging technologies can be difficult for small businesses, but AI also offers incredible potential to enhance operations, improve efficiencies, and enable business owners to compete and thrive in a changing landscape. It’s an exciting time, full of possibilities for those willing to embrace innovation.
Are you involved in any community groups?
I’ve had the privilege of serving on the board of the Martin Luther King Breakfast Committee, Inc. for the past three years. This group organizes an annual breakfast to honor Dr. King’s legacy and promotes equality, peace, and love. Additionally, I enjoy volunteering with Meals-on-Wheels during the holidays when there’s an increased need for drivers. My firm is also a supporter of Green Columbus, which is a nonprofit that does some great things to promote sustainability. I’ve been most intrigued by their projects related to increasing equitable tree canopy coverage. These experiences allow me to give back to the community in meaningful ways.
How do you like to spend time away from work?
Beyond my professional life, I enjoy traveling, especially to Turks & Caicos, my favorite place to relax, as well as hot yoga and reading. Recently, I became a proud dog mom to a Yorkie puppy, who has been an unexpected source of lessons in patience and leadership. It’s true what they say – sometimes, a new dog can teach you a few new tricks!
